What is EMDR?
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy technique designed to help people process difficult or traumatic experiences.
If you are struggling with past trauma in the form of intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, nightmares, or sensations, EMDR might be a good fit for you. It is a type of therapy treatment that works to lessen the power of negative memories.
The theory behind EMDR is that when something traumatic happens, it seems to get locked in the brain with the original pictures, sounds, thoughts, and feelings. Then, since the experience is locked there, it can become triggered whenever reminders come up. EMDR uses sets of eye movements which work to unlock the system and allow your brain to fully process the experience.
